Alternate Meal Information

Dear Parent or Guardian,

Last school year Career and Success Academy Schools implemented a USDA mandatory charge policy for all students participating in the National School lunch program. We understand that this is a sensitive subject for our families and can impact our students on many levels. Weekly letters and social media posts have been communicated several times during the month of October in order to provide parents and guardians enough time to address any outstanding debts.

Please be assured that no student will ever be denied a meal. However, beginning 11/19/2018 any student with a negative balance of more than $20 will not be allowed to charge a meal to their account until the debt has been paid.

The students with negative balances of more than $20 have the option to bring their lunch or pay the daily price of $2.85 to receive a meal in the cafeteria.

  • If your student has qualified for Reduced Lunch Status and has a negative balance of $20 or more they will need to bring the $.40 for lunch daily or bring a sack lunch from home.
  • If your student has qualified for Free Lunch Status they will continue to receive school lunch, however if they have a negative balance the expectation is to make arrangements to pay the balance down until the account is made whole.
  • If a student has more than a -$20 balance and they forget to bring their lunch or money to school, there will be an alternate meal provided. It will be the same option daily, a cheese sandwich, fruit or vegetable and a milk for $2.85.
  • If your child is within the $0 to -$20 range and they forget lunch or money, they can charge the regular meal options up to the -$20 threshold.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s lunch account, please contact Steven Stutz, Food Service Director, at 574-299-9800 ext. 2609 or sstutz@careeracademysb.com
