Pathways Courses Include:

Year 1 Principles of Teaching

Principles of Teaching introduces students to the teaching profession by exploring education career pathways, teacher preparation, professional expectations, and certification requirements. Students also examine current trends and issues in education and complete a required classroom observation experience.
- Exploration of teaching careers, preparation pathways, and licensure requirements.
- Analysis of current trends, challenges, and issues in education.
- Completion of a minimum 20-hour classroom observation experience.

Year 2 Child and Adolescent Development

Child and Adolescent Development explores how children grow from birth through adolescence, with emphasis on the middle years and teen development. Students examine major developmental theories, biological and environmental influences, and the role of family, peers, schools, culture, and media. The course may include up to 20 hours of observation and is approved for dual credit with successful completion.
- Physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and moral development.
- Developmental theories and observation/interviewing techniques.
- Dual credit opportunity (C or better and prerequisite requirements apply).

Year 3 Teaching and Learning

Teaching and Learning provides students with applied, hands-on experiences that build on prior coursework in the Education Professions pathway, with a specific emphasis on instructional best practices and classroom technology integration.
- Apply foundational teaching concepts through authentic, practice-based learning.
- Explore the role of technology in instruction, assessment, and classroom management.
- Gain hands-on experience with educational software, digital tools, and classroom hardware.
